With the signing of HB 586/SB 356, the Cade Amendments, I want you to know how much the entire Chesapeake College community appreciates your support for this important legislation and your consistent and unyielding commitment to community colleges. This legislation is indeed a milestone for Chesapeake College, and I know as a result we will see greatly expanded access to higher education and new course and program development to respond to the needs of the region's economy.

Let me also assure you that we will work very hard to contain tuition levels at Chesapeake College. As you undoubtedly know, tuition and fees accounted for a rising share of the revenue needed to fund our institution and that trend could not be sustained if we were to assure full access to higer education for all citizens. With this legislation, I think we will be in a position to reverse this trend and stay true to our mission.
