Voting may be ‘easier’ but maybe too easy
May 14, 2006
Star Democrat

A letter in the May 8 Star Democrat from Democratic state senatorial candidate Hilary Spence refers to the new voting laws as making voting easier. What she doesn’t add is that it also opens the door to massive fraud. No longer will a voter be required to vote in his election precinct, he can vote anywhere he pleases and with no I.D., making it very convenient to “vote early and often.” Eventually, the record will be checked but by that time, the candidate’s election may well have been certified.

Voters will be able to vote early in some specific locations, mainly in Democratic-dominated areas.

This also increases by a great deal the cost of conducting the elections with poll workers employed these additional days.

If a voter can’t get to the polls on Election Day, he or she can vote by absentee ballot. The citizen is not prevented from voting.

The right to vote is a privilege, and I consider it a responsibility. There should be one day for the elections, and registered voters should be required to vote in their own precinct.

These new laws should be repealed. Free and fair elections are the cornerstone of our democracy and should be maintained.
