Marsh
Grass Planting, Cambridge, MD
Courtesy of CBF.org
On
Saturday, June 11, 2005, a dozen or so faithful BaySavers helped with
a small but important planting of marsh grasses at the home of Senator
Richard Colburn near Cambridge, MD. Senator Colburn and his wife Alma
have installed rip rap to control shoreline erosion but have left an opening
so that turtles can still nest on their property. CBF was pleased to be
invited to provide volunteers to help with the planting of the marsh grasses
they purchased in order to improve the waterfront habitat after the construction.
Senator Colburn is but one of hundreds of private landowners CBF works
with to establish habitat restoration projects on private property. We
are encouraged that the Senator, who funded all the restoration work on
his land exclusively by his own means and without CBF financial support,
is taking active steps to improve water quality in the Chesapeake Bay.
