ANNAPOLIS — The South Caroline Little League Mid-Atlantic Champs came to Annapolis on Monday, Feb. 7.

State Sen. Richard F. Colburn, R-Mid-Shore introduced them to the Maryland State Senate during its evening session.

The team was invited to stand on the Senate floor in full view of all state senators, one of the Senate’s highest honors.

“I have a baseball sitting on my desk waiting for the autographs of these great players,” said Colburn. “Who knows? There may be a future Hall of Famer on this team, I need to have their signature now,” said Colburn. “The team has meant a lot to the entire community and while we have celebrated them, this is an opportunity for leaders from across the state to salute them. They did a great job representing all of us.”

In early July the team competed in District Play and captured the Maryland District 6 title. The Caroline team moved on to the state tournament in Williamsport, where they defeated East Frederick in the final game to win the state title.

Then it was off to Bristol, Conn., for the Mid-Atlantic Regional Tournament. With that win the Caroline team became the 5th Maryland team ever to go to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa.

Caroline finished there with a 1-2 record, which earned the boys a spot in the playoff round. Their season ended in the U.S. semi-finals where they lost a hard-fought 3-1 decision to J.S. Champions, Conejo Valley East Little League of Thousand Oaks, Calif.
